Aalok Kumar completed his 12th standard from D.A.V Public School, New Delhi. He recently completed his graduation in Political Science (B.A. Hons) from Delhi University. Alok has applied for post graduation in Law and has joined Amity University, Noida to pursue his LLB. He hopes to become a good lawyer and practice law in the future. He is also interested in politics and enjoys debating on related topics. More so, Alok enjoys teaching and actively volunteers in social teaching groups. He is very academically driven and hopes to continue studying on to M.Phil and PhD. He feels that Education is the only way to bring about change in the society and change one's self. His ideal way to spend time is to listen to old Bollywood songs, watch political debates and follow cricket matches. While travelling he likes to read articles, to be aware of what is happening around him and around the world. He works hard to improve his command over spoken English and feels that the Vahani English Program has helped him a lot, and has added to his confidence. He strongly believes in the words of Ella Fitzgerald: "It isn't where you come from; it's where you're going that counts."
Garima Shahi is 20 years old. She is studying for Bachelor of Technology (Computer Science) Degree from Banasthali University, Rajasthan. She is currently in the fourth year of her under graduation program. She likes to keep herself busy by taking part in various competitions, street plays and volunteering work. She had previously interned with Udaan, an NGO based in Mukteshwar (Uttarakhand) and Localfox, a consultancy based in Bangalore. She is currently interning at ST Microelectronics as a System Engineer. She enjoys reading books and drawing inspiration from them. “Tuesdays with Morrie” is one of her favourite reads. Her dream is to build a public library in her hometown, Bageshwar.
Gyantosh Kumar, 20 years old is from New Delhi. He is pursuing B. Tech in Computer Science from Bharati Vidyapeeth College of Engineering, New Delhi. His interest lies in mathematics and computer science. He is a skilled Stack Web Developer. He has done several projects in NodeJS and Machine Learning. He loves competitive programming and deep learning. He is one of the core members of BVCOE NSS and a Web Executive at DSC BVP. In the summer of 2017, he had done an internship with Softbank Energy, where he researched and worked with an SB Energy team under Manoj Kohli, Executive Chairman, SB Energy on replacing ICE vehicles with EVs in India. He has also worked on a business model for Fast Charging Stations for EVs in India. He has successfully completed three internships and has attended one training on campus. Gyantosh wants to become an outstanding software engineer. He likes to watch cricket and movies. He is interested in politics and wants to be a good social worker.
Himanshi Shivhare is 20 years old and comes from Shivpuri, Madhya Pradesh. She has completed her schooling from Happy Days School, Shivpuri in 2016. She is pursuing B.Tech in Information Technology from Medicaps University, Indore. She has interned with companies like First Cry, SB Energy and Morphogenesis and explored different fields of interest. This summer she also did an internship with Gurugram Police in Cyber Security. She is interested in Artificial Intelligence and wants to work in this field. She is an active member of an NGO named Rang De Zindagi in Indore which aims to provide quality education to underprivileged children. She enjoys painting, cooking, observing nature and exploring new places.
Kamini Godiyal is 21 years old and is from Dehra Dun. She completed class 12 with Physics, Chemistry and Biology as her core subjects from PYDS Learning Academy in 2016. Currently she is studying Bachelors in Physiotherapy from SBS (PGI), Dehra Dun. She loves helping people in whichever way she can and wants to work for a social cause in the future. Kamini is hard working and is always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need with a friendly attitude. She aspires to become a good Physiotherapist and wants to work for the rural population. She has interned in Max Hospital Dehra Dun in 2017 and Max Hospital, Saket, New Delhi in 2018 in the department of Physiotherapy. She learnt a lot at both places and the Doctor-Patient Relation was her major learning. In 2019, she interned at Grofers in Quality Team G Brand Function as she was looking for an exposure in a different field. She worked on checking quality of non-food products and sensory analysis for the food products. It was an amazing learning experience as shared by her. Kamini loves writing and was happy to get a chance to intern with The Oxford Book Store Dancing and writing is what she enjoys and these are the only things that make her feel happy during difficult times.
Mansi Sharma is a fourth-year law student at Vivekananda Institute of Professional Studies, GGSIPU. She is 20 years old and hails from Uttarakhand. She completed her secondary education from Him Jyoti School, Dehra Dun in Humanities. She secured 95.8% in the 12th board examinations, but was intrigued by the legal field. Since then, she has been active in law school, participating in various activities which will help her develop the best qualities of a lawyer. She has won first position in many competitions like Memorial Writing, Moot Court and Mock Trials. She also holds a keen interest in reading and debating. While preparing for being in the service sector, she is determined to curb the smallest of delays in disposing of legal matters on her part. She wants to serve the truth and stand for people who are unable to do so for themselves. She has been active in the socio-legal field by being a Para Legal volunteer with the Delhi Legal Service Authority, where she helps the poor and those who are distraught to seek legal help at no cost. She has interned previously with great legal minds such as Advocate Aditya Shankar. Currently she is interning at the Chambers of Advocate, with Abhimanyu Mahajan and learning the basic nuances of the field.
Prashika Dua is 21 years old and comes from Shivpuri, Madhya Pradesh. She feels lucky to have been a part of Happy Days School which gave her a platform to prove herself. She is pursuing B. Tech in Computer Sciences from Medicaps University, Indore. Prashika loves spending time with people and enjoys learning from them and their experiences. She has done challenging internships with fast growing start-ups like Zomato, Flipkart and OYO, which has helped her develop holistically. She is determined and loves to bring a smile on everyone's face. After graduation she aspires to become the CEO of her own company. She is good at dancing, playing handball and other activities.
Rekha has recently completed B.A. Spanish (Hons) from Amity, Noida. Since childhood she has lived with an NGO, after completing 8th from Tribal Ashram in Delhi, she was shifted to another NGO called Salaam Baalak Trust Delhi, where she completed the rest of her schooling. When she was in the 12th, Marta Lynes a member of the same trust introduced her to Vahani Scholarship and helped her through the process. While in college Rekha participated in a Quiz competition organized by Amity School of Foreign Language. During the summer breaks she volunteered at the Salaam Baalak Trust and at Can-kids. She also participated in a Spanish play called Casa de Bernarda Alba in the University. Here she played the role of an 80 years old lady Mariya Josefa. Rekha enjoyed her college life. Currently, she is working with a social enterprise called Eco Femme. Eco Femme is a global women's empowerment initiative rising from rural India, reaching out to women around the world. Rekha works as a workshop facilitator. She conducts workshops on menstrual hygiene with NGOs and schools. Lately, she visited some villages in Uttar Pradesh near India-Nepal border. Rekha feels extremely thankful to Vahani for supporting her throughout the years and for making her believe in humanity.
Ritu comes from Kota, Rajasthan, where she completed her schooling. She graduated from HR College of Commerce and Economics, Bombay supported by Vahani Scholarship. During her Internships, she has worked with several start-ups and helped them with the initial Business optimisation. She worked with Ernst and Young for almost a year as a tax analyst. An exciting opportunity came her way and she joined Vahani Scholarship Trust as a Strategy Manager, this seems like a full circle to her. She is President of the Vahani Alumni Association and hopes to help shape the Vahani scholars to become future change makers and Leaders
Riya is 20 years old. She is from Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh. She finished her schooling from Vidya Gyan School in 2016. She scored 10 CGPA in High School and 87.2% in Intermediate School. Currently, she is pursuing B. Tech in Information Technology from COER, Roorkee. She has won medals in chess, badminton and volleyball in inter-college tournaments. She is also working with an NGO in her college. She has completed internships at OYO in June-July 2018 and at HCL in June-July 2019. She is interested in playing sports, sketching, dancing and visiting new places. She is very keen to learn and explore new things. She likes to do adventurous activities. She is the coordinator of the badminton and volleyball team in her college. She wants to become an IPS officer. She wants to uplift underprivileged victims and make people aware of their rights. She wants to provide hospital and educational facilities in her village and other areas as well. When she is financially independent, she wants to help others financially.
Savej Hasan is a 20 year old Engineering student from Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh. He has completed his schooling in 2016 from Vidya Gyan School, Bulandshahr with 91.6% in 12th board exams. He is currently pursuing B. Tech in Electronics and Communication Engineering from Jamia Millia Islamia University, New Delhi. He wants to become an Electronics Engineer and become an IES (Indian Engineering Services) Officer. He enjoys learning new programming languages and loves to design programs in Java. His aim is to serve the people of his community, state and country. In his spare time, he loves to read books. The book which has left a profound influence on his mind is "My Experiments with Truth" by Mahatma Gandhi as it reveals the ideas and thoughts that have moved the world and brings out the very idea that God is truth and truth is God. He is always fascinated by the question of how the future will be. He is deeply interested in renewable sources of energy and transportation as he believes that alternative energy sources would be the need of the future and would be one of the industries that would highly affect the lives of people. His aim is to develop a better transportation system in India with the help of electric vehicles. He has done 2 month long internships with Soft Bank Energy, Policy Bazaar and is currently doing an internship with Paytm. After graduation, he would like to apply for Indian Engineering Services. Savej is hardworking, enjoys doing social work and reading books. Apart from his profession, he wants to start a higher secondary school in his village. He deeply believes that education is the basic right of everyone and is the only key to eliminate every social ailment.
Sonia Singh is 20 years old. She hails from Gautam Budhha Nagar, Uttar Pradesh. She has completed her schooling in 2016 from Vidya Gyan School, Bulandshahr with 94% in the 12th Board Examination. She is currently pursuing her Bachelors in Physiotherapy from SBSPGI, Dehradun. In college, she is a member of the Rotary and Cultural Club. She enjoys playing handball. Her interest lies in reading novels and short stories. Her favourite author is Paulo Coelho. She likes visiting new places, meeting new people and understanding their cultures. She is very keen to learn about aquatic animals and aquatic life. She aspires to be one of the best physiotherapists. She is enthusiastic about learning and researching about the use of physiotherapy to correct vision defects. She wants to improve the quality of life of poor people. Apart from her profession, she wants to work for children in the slums. She wants to provide them with basic education and make them aware of their rights and responsibilities. She believes that by educating them, in a way it will help end Child Labour, as most of the victims of child labour are born in slums. She interned with Max Hospital, Saket, New Delhi last year and this summer she interned with Paytm, where she learnt about invoice tracking and checking. This internship provided her with exposure and experience in a corporate office. Apart from her profession, she is passionate about bringing a change in her society by educating young children.
Suraj Sharma is 22 years old and is a resident of New Delhi, India. He completed his schooling from R. P. V. V., Lajpat Nagar in 2016. He is pursuing B. Tech in Computer Engineering from DTU, New Delhi and is currently in the 4th year. Suraj enjoys learning new things and discussing them with people who are interesting and socially aware. He wants to become a good programmer and use his coding skills to make life easier. He is interested in Machine Learning and aims to work in the healthcare sector. He wishes to be excellent at what he does, so that he can train others too. He loves listening to music, teaching, watching Comic TV shows, playing video games, travelling and going on long walks. He enjoys reading novels; his all-time favourite is ‘The Fault in Our Stars’ by John Green. Suraj has interned with two not-for-profit organisations: Vahani and Udaan. He is currently interning at IHS Markit, Noida, where he assists the software testing team using Python programming language.
Suman Rana has recently completed her graduation in B.A. Hindi (Hons) from Indraprastha College for Women, University of Delhi. Since childhood she has lived in NGOs, in Tribal Ashram in Delhi until grade 7 and Salaam Baalak Trust, Delhi, where she completed the rest of her schooling. While in college Suman was a member of the Hindi Editorial Society and the National Service Scheme. She participated in several social events like Paper Presentation, Social Conquest, Skits, March Pasts, several Quizzes, Beti 2.0, Rape Roko, Swachhta hi Sewa hai, Hindi Mahotsav, Role of Youth in Road Safety, Workshop on Head & Neck Cancer Conference, Youth Fest and Rang Badlav Ke. During her summer breaks, she interned with India News, Salaam Baalak Trust, Right Action for Youth, Hum Sab and also volunteered for the Outreach Program (Project Noor) of the college that works for underprivileged children in New Delhi. She has also completed a 3-month course in 'Indian Sign Language' from Noida Deaf Society. In the final year of college, she was the secretary of NSS and the Class Representative. She volunteered in organising many events at the college level and department level like Swachhta Pakhwara, NSS Fest, Voter Awareness Workshop, NSS Day, Know Your Rights, Road Safety Geeta Ganju Natya Pratiyogita and Paper Presentation. Suman enjoyed her college life throughout and the Vahani family gave her all the opportunities to do so. Mariya, Suman's Vahani mentor introduced her to the Gandhi Fellowship program and today she is a proud Gandhi Fellow placed in Kapkote, Bageshwar; Uttarakhand. She is enjoying the fieldwork and learning from everyday challenges. Suman wants to work in the education sector in rural areas and wants to encourage young adults to continue their education and become aware citizens. Suman is very thankful to the Vahani Family who have helped her over the years and continues to be a support system.
Tanya Choudhary has successfully completed her BSc in Dietetics and Applied Nutrition with Psychology from Amity University Gurgaon. Since childhood, she has lived in New Delhi with her parents. She completed her schooling from D. A. V Public School, Kailash Hills, New Delhi, where Nehal who was the student counsellor at D. A. V Public School introduced her to Vahani Scholarship and helped her through the process. While in college Tanya was the class representative and a member of the music club. She had also worked on research on an innovative food development product with some medicinal values. Tanya interned at Fortis Hospital in the Psychology department for 2 months, then at B.L Kapur Super Speciality hospital as an intern dietician for 2 months, followed by a 2 months internship at Park hospital as an intern dietician. She has participated in several quiz competitions, innovative recipe competitions and won the 1st prize at Amifest 2018. She volunteered in organising many events at the department level as well as college level such as Swachh Abhiyaan, Save Girl Child and attended many conferences in hospitals such as Max Hospital, Paras Hospital and IIT Roorkee in the last 3 years of graduation. Now Tanya is pursuing Masters in food science and nutrition from Banasthali Vidhyapith, Jaipur. In the future, She wants to work with the World Health Organisation in the research sector. Vaani Barmola is 19 years old and is a native of Dehra Dun, India. She has gloriously passed her class 12 from Him Jyoti School, Dehra Dun. Her empathetic and optimistic approach to life spurs her on to cure ailments and her heart’s desire is to become a cardio surgeon. She has a poetic flair and is a nature lover at heart. Her excellent leadership qualities were acknowledged when she was made a Prefect for the last two years of schooling. Her interests involve reading, writing, public speaking and playing chess. She has interned with Times Internet as a content writer. She aspires to open an animal care centre in the future, to facilitate a little smile on the faces of the animals. She currently got admission in Amity University, Gurgaon and will be studying Clinical Psychology.
