Ever since I was a child, I have been taught to respect, help and value others. So, I have always tried to be the best version of myself. But in this process, we tend to forget that we even need the care that we offer to others.
Growing up, we all get so occupied between college and jobs that we get exhausted, both
physically and mentally. We meet many people and end up investing so much in things that
aren’t that important. We gradually start losing interest in everything, and start doubting
ourselves. And to avoid this phase in life, self-care plays a crucial role.
Everyone in this world wants to be loved. But we have this habit of expecting love from others rather than loving ourselves. The absence of self-love can never be replaced by the love of others.
It is okay to be alone at times, treating yourself to a meal, pursuing a hobby, and doing anything that makes you happy. It is absolutely fine to distance yourself from people who hamper your peaceful life. Caring for yourself is an act of survival. It is rightly said, “Taking care of myself doesn’t mean me first, but me too.” Therefore, it is important to remember, that we shine the brightest when we seek happiness within ourselves.
The day I realized the importance of self-care was when I was let down by my own tribe, not
being appreciated even for the best of my assignments. Hence, I switched to appreciating
myself, celebrating small wins and drawing boundaries for all the toxic people around me.
Putting myself first not only gave me mental peace, it also made me more available for the
loved ones in my life.It is important to take a pause, because almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes, including you.
Therefore, treat your body like a temple. Love it, adore it and take care of it.
Love it.
